For decades, superhero Iron Man was a man. Now a teenage girl is taking over! Marvel Comics, Iron Man’s creator, is reinventing the character as Riri Williams, a 15-year-old engineering prodigy who will be known as Ironheart.
The appearance of a new female superhero isn’t the only change. This past November, Marvel released five new comic book covers. They show superheroes doing science and math activities, such as looking through a telescope, building gadgets, and calculating equations. The covers are part of Marvel’s science, technology, engineering, art, and math initiative, which encourages young fans to pursue these fields in the future.
