When Rebecca and Kimberly Yeung were looking for a fun activity, they set their sights sky-high. The sisters, who live in Seattle, Washington, built a homemade spacecraft and launched it into the atmosphere.
Named after their cat, Loki, the craft included a video camera attached to a triangular frame. A weather balloon lifted the craft high above Earth. The girls presented their design at the White House Science Fair in 2016. “Seeing our craft go up after working on it for weeks was really exciting,” says Kimberly.
