Computers power nearly everything in our lives, yet only a small number of female college students say they’re interested in studying computer science. The nonprofit organization Girls Who Code (GWC) wants to change that. It teaches coding to girls in grades 6 to 12. Code is what people use to tell computers what to do. The organization hopes to inspire girls to choose careers in coding.
A new fiction book series started by the founder of the organization may help. In the series, a group of middle school girlfriends form a club to build apps using code. So far, three books have been released. The authors of the series plan to release 10 more books.
