There are no grocery stores in space, so astronauts need to bring food supplies from Earth. Sometimes they get a special delivery.
The International Space Station (ISS) is a spacecraft that has orbited Earth since 1998. A rotating crew of astronauts has lived there since 2000. The station’s fridge can only be used for science experiments, not food storage. So normally, food can’t be kept cold.
Last summer, NASA had some extra space in a cooler. It sent 30 ice cream cups and Snickers ice cream bars as a treat for the crew.
“We sent enough to share!” says Tabatha Thompson of NASA.
