Reach Every Learning Level With Our New Teacher’s Guide

More differentiation, more activities, and more math practice!

Hi! I’m Lauren McCrone, the new senior education editor for both DynaMath and MATH (our middle school math magazine). After almost a decade as a math teacher and coach, I decided to switch gears and help design quality math resources.

Which is why I’m happy to share some exciting information about our beautifully redesigned Teacher’s Guide, now an even more powerful teaching tool for your classroom.

It’s more differentiated, easier to use, and will keep your students engaged in inquiry-based learning so they can achieve skill mastery. Read on to see some of my favorite parts.

Grade-specific differentiated lessons

Beginning with our September 2017 issue, we took a new approach to addressing different learning levels. Now there’s a lesson plan specifically for grades 3, 4, and 5 with engagement questions, math vocabulary, and sample solving strategies. Each lesson plan corresponds to grade-specific feature articles in the issue.

In addition, each lesson plan now has a “Differentiate Your Teaching” section, with two to three extension activities to level the lesson up or down. Looking for a manipulative idea? You’ll find it here too!

This section also includes DynaMath skills sheets. They’re great math practice for below-level, on-level, and above-level students. That adds up to a whole lot of options!

A Coach in Your Corner

Our Teacher’s Guide contributor Melinda Villalovos is the district math coach for Deer Valley Unified School District in Arizona. Melinda writes each DynaMath lesson plan and infuses them with tips she’s picked up over her 14 years as a math coach. Learn best practices and innovative teaching methods to apply in your elementary math classroom. (Have some tips of your own? Share them here!)
